Port of Auckland (POAL)

Location: Port of Auckland, Auckland
Client: Hawkins
Scope: Structural Steel Canopy, Roof Truss Seismic Strengthening, Steel Balustrades and Handrails, Stainless Steel Gutters and Downpipes, Parapet Flashings, Architectural Metalwork
Metal Mart is partnering with Hawkins on the Fergusson Building redevelopment at the Ports of Auckland, delivering a full structural and architectural metalwork package in phases, with major elements already complete and further scope underway.
The seismic strengthening of the building's roof structure is done, retrofitting strength into a roof built more than 50 years ago. No two connections in a structure that age are the same, so every bracket and rail was individually manufactured to suit the existing truss framing. Before any fixing went in, we scanned the concrete beams for reinforcing steel so every anchor landed clean, the kind of preparation you cannot skip with half century old concrete.
We have also erected the new structural steel canopy, delivered in sections, oversize freighted to site, and lifted into place. Alongside it sits an extensive metalworks package including steel balustrades and handrails, marine grade stainless gutters, rainwater heads and downpipes, welded parapet flashings, and architectural steel and stainless components across the building, all coordinated around a live, operational port.
Managing structural and architectural metalwork together, in stages around a working port, reflects the capacity our team brings and the trust main contractors place in us across complex scope. With more still ahead, it is work we are proud to keep progressing.
