SHOP DRAWINGS

Shop Drawing Services in New Zealand
Accurate shop drawings are the difference between a project that flows and a project that stalls. At Metal Mart, our shop drawing and CAD detailing service turns your concepts, sketches, architectural plans or engineering drawings into precise, fabrication ready drawings and cut files. And because we cut and fabricate metal every day, our drawings are produced by people who understand exactly how parts behave on the machine, on the bench and on site.
That is the Metal Mart difference. We are not a drafting bureau that hands over drawings and walks away. We draw it, we cut it, and we stand behind both.
Drawings Produced by the People Who Make the Parts
Most detailing providers have never run the machines their drawings feed. Our drafting team works alongside our laser cutting and fabrication operation, which means every drawing is checked against real world manufacturability before it ever reaches a workshop. Hole sizes, wall thicknesses, joint clearances, weld access, bend allowances and material grades are specified by people who deal with them daily.
The result: fewer RFIs, fewer surprises, less rework, and parts that fit together the first time.
Our Shop Drawing and Detailing Services
Fabrication shop drawings. Complete, dimensioned drawings for steel and metal components, ready for the workshop, with materials, finishes, welds and connections clearly specified.
Cut ready CAD files. DXF and DWG files prepared and nested for laser cutting, including tube and pipe components for rotary laser cutting. If we are cutting the job, this step is seamless. If your own fabricator is cutting it, they will thank you for the quality of the files.
Tube and pipe component detailing. Interlocking joints, notches, mitres, slots and connection details designed to take full advantage of 360 degree tube laser cutting, producing frames and assemblies that self locate and weld up fast.
Concept development. Got an idea, a sketch on paper, or a sample part? We can develop it into an accurate, production ready drawing and prototype it on our own machines.
Reverse engineering. Existing parts with no drawings can be measured and redrawn so they can be reproduced accurately, every time.
From Drawing to Delivered Part, Under One Roof
Because drawing, cutting and fabrication happen together at Metal Mart, your project moves faster and communication never falls through the cracks:
You brief us once, and the same team carries your job from design through production. Design questions are answered in hours, not days, because the drafter can walk to the machine. Drawings are optimised for material efficiency, saving you money on every sheet and length. Prototypes can be drawn, cut and in your hands quickly, so designs are proven before production.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shop Drawings
A shop drawing is a detailed fabrication document that shows exactly how a component is to be made: exact dimensions, materials, connections, welds, finishes and assembly information. Design drawings from an architect or engineer show design intent; shop drawings show the workshop precisely how to build it.
We commonly work from PDF, DXF, DWG and 3D files such as STEP, and we can also work from hand sketches, photos or physical sample parts. We supply cut ready DXF or DWG files and dimensioned PDF drawings.
Yes, and that is where we add the most value. We can take your project from drawing through laser cutting and fabrication to finished parts, all under one roof, with a single point of contact.
Yes. We regularly develop concepts, sketches and sample parts into accurate, production ready drawings, and we can reverse engineer existing components that have no documentation.
Turnaround depends on the size and complexity of the project. We confirm timeframes when we quote, and we can accommodate urgent jobs where needed.
