Metal Mart partnered with Cassidy Construction on Te Rimutahi, the transformation of 254 Ponsonby Road into a new civic space for Auckland. The name, gifted by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, remembers the lone rimu tree that once stood where Ponsonby and Karangahape roads meet. Being trusted to help carry that story forward meant something to our team, and it called for metalwork of a standard to match.

At the entrance stands the vertical marker, a pou rising 7.5 metres in a single unbroken form. A marker like this only works as one clean, continuous piece, so that is exactly how we built it. The 325 millimetre tube was lasered in one length on our tube laser, one of very few machines in New Zealand capable of cutting at that diameter, length, and thickness. It was then hot dip galvanised, finished in Resene Volcano Low Sheen, and fitted with integrated LED lighting to bring it to life after dark.

On the canopy, we fabricated and installed the Te Rimutahi 3D signage in laser cut steel lettering. Throughout the park, our team delivered over 100 lineal metres of custom steel planters and garden edging, along with stainless steel handrails featuring integrated LED lighting, all fabricated in grade 316 stainless and finished to withstand decades of daily public use.

The wider package included folded edge plates, ramp cladding, bench backrests, pergola seating frames, and laser etched stainless inlays cast into the paving, a coordinated scope of bespoke fabrication delivered across every corner of the site.

Working alongside Cassidy Construction, LandLAB, and Auckland Council, Te Rimutahi reflects the depth of work we take on: large scale public projects, demanding architectural detail, and the in-house capability to deliver both. Today the space is part of daily life in Ponsonby, a result our whole team is proud to stand behind.
